As part of a private conservation project, 30 red macaws (Ara macao) were liberated today in Tambor, Puntarenas.

This project is managed by the Asociación Pro Conservación de la Lapa Roja (Asoprolapa) that has been trying to reproduce and protect this endangered Macaw species for over 13 years.

The project involves the local communities and schools and pretends to bring back the Macaw population in the Nicoya Peninsula where it used to exist naturally in the past.
